The Floors Are Finally Finished!
After months of pulling carpet, sanding, repairing, and patiently bringing life back to these old farmhouse floors, we can finally say the hardwood floors are done! What was hidden beneath decades of wear is now one of our favorite features of the house. Every board tells a story, and seeing the natural character of the wood shine through has made every bit of the hard work worthwhile. The transformation has completely changed the feel of our 100 year old farmhouse, making the rooms feel brighter, warmer, and more connected to the home’s history.
With the floors complete, we’re moving on to the next big project: washing walls and preparing for plaster repair. Years of wallpaper, old paint, and countless small cracks have left plenty of work ahead, but it’s exciting to finally be at this stage. Every wall is getting a thorough cleaning before we begin filling cracks, stabilizing loose plaster, and restoring the original surfaces.
One of the best parts of this project has been the help along the way. This month we’ve had an extra set of hands from Parker, who is home from Germany for a few weeks. Having him here has made a huge difference, and it’s been wonderful spending time together while tackling projects that seemed overwhelming when we first started.
There’s something special about working on an old family home with family beside you. Between the buckets of wash water, ladders, and endless wall scrubbing, we’ve shared plenty of laughs and made memories that will last far longer than the renovations themselves. The house is slowly beginning to feel less like a construction project and more like a home again. Floors are finished, walls are getting prepped, and another chapter of this restoration journey is underway.
One room at a time, we’re bringing this old farmhouse back to life.
Next up: plaster repairs, more paint scraping, and finally seeing some color return to these walls. Stay tuned—there’s still plenty of dust ahead, but we’re getting closer every day.
